There is a product or service out there for everyone.
While some businesses have a very specific target market, others target a much larger market.
There are many advantages to catering to unique audiences, but it can be challenging if you don’t know how to reach them.
The small size of a niche market can make it very difficult to reach potential customers using traditional methods.
The internet provides opportunities for businesses to be profitable if they use marketing techniques effectively.
If you want to succeed in a niche market, you need to be active online. This means creating targeted ads and maintaining a strong social media presence.
When developing your digital marketing campaign, SEO is essential.
SEO may not produce results immediately, but if done correctly, it can have a drastic positive effect on your business.
How Niche Markets Benefit From SEO
Although you may be selling something unique, there may be others in the world offering a similar product.
If you want to make sure potential customers find your business before your competitors’, you need to invest in a strong SEO campaign.
The number one goal for any business doing SEO should be to appear as high as possible in web search results.
You are much more likely to reach new business goals, such as increased conversions and engagement, and developing a unique brand identity, once you have overcome the initial obstacle.
1. Analyze Your Industry’s General Search Volume
You should consider the search volume on terms for your industry when starting your business.
It is important to consider whether people are searching for your product or if there are more specific phrases that you should target.
You may have difficulty attracting visitors to your site if you are trying to rank for a keyword that has very few searches.
You can check the search volume of your keywords a few different ways.
Google’s Keyword Planner is a great way to get an idea of how often certain keywords are being searched for, as well as how popular they are.
The Keyword Planner can also be used to generate ideas based on another keyword or a landing page.
2. Keyword Research
Identifying the right keywords to target is one of the most important steps in SEO for a niche market.
This tool helps you to understand how people look for and describe your products, so you can optimize your website to match their needs.
This also makes it easier for potential customers to find your business when they do a search.
Even if you have industry-specific language for your target market, it might not be the same terms that customers use when they are looking for what you offer.
Let’s say you do maintenance on antique sailboats. Despite the lack of search volume for the term “antique sailboat repair,” ranking for it will be easy.
However, research on keywords may show that the term “sailboat restoration” is more prevalent among users.
As stated in Section 1, you need to focus on the meaning of your terms. If you want people to buy your product or service, you want to use keywords that signal that the searcher is interested in making a purchase.
3. Incorporate Keywords on Your Website
You will want to start by incorporating your keywords onto your website.
Use your long-tail keywords for blogs and resources, as mentioned in Section 2, to help your niche business rank on Google.
There are numerous places where you can optimize your website with keywords to improve your site’s ranking.
Page Title
Your keyword phrase should be in the page title. How your website appears in search results is one of the first things Google looks at.
You only have 65 characters to work with in this spot, so make them count.
A page title should include a keyword phrase and the business name or URL.
Meta Description
Even though your meta description doesn’t have an effect on your search ranking, it does affect the number of clicks your listings get.
This text is displayed in search results under the page title and is often your first and last chance to market to customers.
You only have 165 characters to work with, so you want to ensure your message, and keyword phrase, is clear and engaging.
4. Create Great Content
No matter your market, great content is significant for SEO.
To ensure your website has high rankings, you want to fill it with quality content.
Content is essential for engaging your readers and promoting your brand. Your primary pages, blog, and how-to guide are all great ways to produce informative content that will capture your audience’s attention.
When creating your content, you want to make sure it is interesting and relevant to your target audience.
If you target the right audience and craft your message correctly, your rankings will improve significantly.
The research you conducted from Section 1 should help you determine what content potential consumers are looking for. Based on your findings, you should be able to produce content that appeals to your target audience.
It is important to make your text easily readable, which is where using header tags with keywords can be helpful.
The goal of a website should be to keep visitors on the page and engaged with the content.
5. Perform Technical SEO
Technical SEO focuses on the usability and functionality of your website and is essential for any business that wants to succeed.
The more traffic your website gets from your optimized content, the more important it is to make sure it’s easy for people to use.
This includes improving your page speed, making your website mobile-friendly, adding an XML sitemap, and more.
It is important that you set up tracking for your website so that you can measure your progress.
Google Analytics and Google Search Console are essential tools for website performance.
If you don’t know where to start with your technical SEO, these are the four areas you should focus on first.
6. Build Your Link Profile
Links are the backbone of any strong SEO campaign.
One of the most important things to look at when you’re trying to determine how healthy your SEO is, is your link profile. You want to make sure that it doesn’t contain any links that could be considered spam.
Ahrefs is a tool that can be used to analyze your link profile and determine the type of links that are currently leading to your website.
The links on the site should be authoritative and high quality for your industry. If the links are sketchy or irrelevant, they should be fixed.
If there are any undesirable links to your site, get rid of them through Google Search Console so that your link profile is clean before creating new, high-quality links to your site.
How to Do SEO When You’re in a Low-Volume Niche
The problem with low search volume
You want to get right to the good stuff. (Maybe you’ve already scrolled past this!)
In order to improve your SEO, you need to be aware of the potential problems you will face.
When I say “low-volume niche,” I’m talking about a niche with low search volume.
The number of searches that a particular keyword gets is called search volume.
Most keywords vary in usage throughout the year, with some being used more during certain seasons. An obvious example is holiday-related keywords.
The graph above shows that the rise and fall behavior is typical for most keywords.
Most keywords still have a high search volume, even during the lowest point on the graph.
The problem with low search volume is that it is already low.
If your keyword search volume is ordinarily lower, it will not receive a lot of attention. The keyword is only being searched during very specific timeframes or in certain situations.
Is your keyword too specific or niche?
It is important to have the correct keywords for low-volume SEO.
In order to increase the likelihood of people finding your website, you need to include keywords that they are likely to use. This is the basic principle of SEO, but if you are in a niche market with low search volume, you will need to focus more on this.
I see a lot of people using broad keywords when they should be using more specific ones.
How general or specific should your keyword be? It’s a tricky question.
People who are interested in tea gift baskets are definitely interested in very specific keywords.
Making your keywords more general
If you are in a niche with low search volume, this is probably the process you will end up using.
Let’s say your focus keyword is “watercolor dog painting artist.” In Keyword Planner, you won’t see anything:
That likely won’t get a lot of searches. What you need to do is generalize.
First, brainstorm. Use a thesaurus to brainstorm a list of alternative words for “smart.” Intelligent, cunning, quick-witted, resourceful, strategies
A great alternative keyword for “pet photography” would be “pet portraits.”
Get your technical SEO in order
Although the term “technical SEO” may sound intimidating, it is not as bad as it seems. It’s also an important part of every SEO campaign.
Optimize your link profile. The number and quality of websites that link to your site is a big factor in how well your website will rank in search engine results pages. If your website has links from websites that are considered to be authoritative, then your website will rank higher in search engine results.
It can be difficult to find a balance between producing a lot of work and ensuring that it is of a high quality. Quality is more important, so you cannot have a link building strategy that is spammy.
Here’s what I recommend:
First, assess your current link profile to see where you stand. If you find undesirable links, disavow them.
Don’t skimp on this step. The goal is to remove the links that could be harmful to your website and ensure that your link profile is in good condition.
Get your content right. You know the saying “content is king,” right?
Even if there is very little search volume for a particular niche, it is still true.
When thinking about content tags, it is important to consider what technical aspects are necessary. There are two main types of tags: H1 (headings) and H2 (subheadings).
Mobile-fy your site
I’m always talking about this, but it’s even more important in a low-volume niche.
We live in a mobile world. Chances are, you are reading this message on a smartphone or tablet.
More than half of web traffic is from mobile devices.
Most of your users view your site on a mobile device.
Some people have a hard time believing that the desktop has been dethroned, even though mobile devices are so popular.
You will need to think like this if you want to improve your SEO.
To ensure your customers have a positive experience on their mobile devices, you need to design your website to be mobile friendly.
There are a few key things you need to do to make sure your website is mobile friendly: responsive design, mobile keyword research, and content formatting.
Let me address each one in detail.
Responsive design. You have most likely heard this term before, but it is more than just a popular saying.
A responsive design adjusts itself to different screen sizes.
Mobile keyword research. Even though I talked about keyword research before, this is a whole different thing.
Mobile keyword research is distinct from desktop keyword research.
Generally, mobile keywords are shorter and more localized.
It would take a long time to explain this in depth, so I wrote a whole post about it. It’s a must-read for everyone who does SEO, period.
Content formatting. It’s not the best experience. It can be hard to read a long post on a mobile device.
Conclusion
If you’re in a low-volume niche, don’t panic.
You’re not doomed to losing the SEO game.
It is not necessary to have a large website or a lot of influence to have a good ranking in any niche, even in niche markets with very little search volume.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) does not need to rely on frequently used keywords and a lot of paid internet traffic. Although it may seem that way at times, it is not actually the case.
I’ve helped clients who are in very small markets get noticed on search engine results pages, and they are always surprised at how well it goes.
This article is not very technical. It is easy for anyone to approach SEO, even if they don’t have years of experience.
Now, I’m not saying this is easy. You’ll have to dedicate time to doing this right.
Although it requires more effort, if you are willing to put in the work, you can improve your website to be one of the best in its category, which in turn will help increase your traffic.
